It was renamed Chengdu Municipal Library in 1927, then renamed Sichuan Western People's Library in 1942. In 1952, it was officially renamed the Sichuan Provincial Library and began operating in its current form in December 2015.
As of December 2017, the Sichuan Provincial Library had a collection of over 5 million volumes, including 650,000 ancient books and 220,000 documents from the Republic of China era. The library also has digital resources totaling 150 TB. The library covers an area of 52,000 square meters and has 21 departments with 220 staff members.
